This course is designed for students who are beginning to learn English as an additional language. Students acquire English language skills through content-based instruction in the four domains of language use: reading, writing, speaking and listening. The curriculum focuses on survival English and emphasizes development of vocabulary. Reading and writing instruction are also emphasized. Students begin to read fiction and non-fiction works at the appropriate level of difficulty. They also begin to write words, sentences and paragraphs in English.
